Pure’s Pain Experts to Take the Stage at Best Practice London 2025

Lauren King

On February 26, 2025, at the Best Practice London Conference, two of our Health and Wellbeing Leads, Adam Davies and Vicky Maskill, will deliver an insightful talk on “Helping people ‘take back control’: managing chronic pain in primary care – a health coaching approach, empowering patients and supporting practices.”

Joining them are Prof. Deepak Ravindran, a Consultant in Pain Medicine at Central Reading PCN, and Lee Vaughan, a Health Coach and Patient Advocate. Together, they will share their expertise, experiences, and strategies for managing chronic pain.

The session will take place from 12:15 to 13:00 in GP Clinical Theatre 2.

Addressing the Chronic Pain Epidemic in Primary Care

Chronic pain affects millions across the UK and places immense strain on primary care services. With rising demand and limited resources, healthcare providers need innovative approaches that go beyond traditional medical interventions.

This session will explore how health coaching – a patient-centric approach – can transform chronic pain management by fostering resilience, encouraging positive behaviours, and promoting independence.

Key topics include:

  • The growing impact of chronic pain: Understanding the challenges and pressures it places on the health system.

  • Revisiting traditional approaches: Evaluating the limitations of conventional pain management and exploring evidence-based alternatives.

  • Health coaching in practice: Demonstrating how a structured health coaching-led service can achieve meaningful improvements in patients’ lives, including reduced reliance on medication, increased independence, and improved function.

  • Learning from lived experience: Hearing from medical pain experts and patient advocates who have seen and felt the benefits of these services firsthand.

  • Practical implementation tips: Equipping delegates with actionable steps to introduce and sustain these services within the existing funding frameworks of primary care.
