CPD at Pure: Staying Current in Physiotherapy

What is CPD?

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is a commitment to ongoing lifelong learning. CPD is about identifying opportunities to learn something new, refresh existing knowledge, improve skills, or simply keeping up-to-date with the latest developments within our profession.

In practice, it can equate to internal training on a specific skill or set of skills needed to carry out your job role, or participating in in-service training sessions or events led by your employer. It may involve an external training course or studying towards a new qualification; attending an educational event led by your professional governing body or experts in your field of interest.

Why is CPD important?

CPD enables learning to become conscious and proactive, rather than passive and reactive. It involves an individual documenting and keeping a record of their increasing skills, knowledge and experience that they gain throughout their career. It can facilitate staff appraisals and support short-, medium- and long-term personal development plans and career pathway direction.

For the employer, analysing competencies and quality markers on individual, team and company performance and/or service provision, can also highlight learning needs, appropriate training or process changes needed. Thus, support workforce satisfaction and open up potential internal career progression opportunities.
